Computer software engineers, applications
Computer software engineers design, develop and modify software systems; correct errors with existing software; improve software performance, analyze user needs, coordinate software system installation and monitor the functioning of equipment.

Analyzing information plays a large role in the job of a computer software engineer. It is the engineer who recommends and plans computer specifications and layouts, and who supervises the work of programmers, technologists and technicians.

Considerable preparation is needed for this occupation. To become a computer software engineer requires a minimum of two to four years in a work-related experience, on-the-job training and/or vocational training. Post-secondary education is required, often a bachelor’s degree.

Physician Assistant
Under supervision, a Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician. Tasks can include: conducting complete physicals; providing treatment; and counseling patients.

Physician Assistants are required to administer and interpret diagnostic test results (x-rays, electrocardiograms and lab tests) and to make diagnoses, with physician approval, regarding treatment of patients. They perform injections, immunizations and wound care, as well as providing physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures. Supervising and coordinating technicians and technical assistants is another facet of the job, as well as visiting patients on hospital rounds, updating charts, ordering therapy and reporting back to the physician.

To be employed in this field, one must graduate from an accredited educational program for physician assistants.Education requires post-secondary training and a minimum of two to four years in a work-related experience, on-the-job training and/or vocational training.

Physical Therapist Assistant:
Physical Therapist Assistants help Physical Therapists carry out therapy treatments and procedures. They are required to instruct and assist patients as they practice exercises and functional activities. A Physical Therapist will administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, massage and treatments such as ultrasound. They observe patients during treatment and put together data on patients’ progress, which they report back to the Physical Therapist. Other job requirements include fitting patients for orthopedic braces, prostheses and supportive devices. Transporting patients and monitoring equipment are also tasks, which are the responsibility of the Assistant.

Medium preparation is needed to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.

Veterinary Technologists’ and Technicians
A Veterinary Technologist and Technician performs medical tests to treat and diagnosis diseases in animals. Job tasks include: administering anesthesia to animals; care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery; preparation and administering of medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments; performing laboratory tests; cleaning and sterilizing instruments, equipment, and materials; providing veterinarians with the correct equipment and instruments; filling prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers; performing dental work and providing information and counseling on animal health care, behavior problems and nutrition.

Post-secondary education and training is needed to become a Veterinary Technologist and Technician. Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.
